Park Burger Kuwait – Review

In food, if there is one thing we can say without fear of contradiction is that ‘Kuwait Loves Burgers’. The food industry here is worth millions and it is not longer the McDonald’s and Burger King’s that define our idea of the perfect patty. Popularity of  the ‘dude food’ has unleashed a new wave of gourmet bun slingers who has turned this once humble sandwich into an object of reverence. The food geeks who used to obsess over the details of fine dining are now queueing to get into hip burger joints. Saw this place after a visit to Five Guys in...

Burger & Lobster Kuwait – Review

Burger & Lobster, is a Russian owned, UK based chain that was birthed by 4 school friends in Moscow drinking wine on a roof-top. They came up with the idea to set up a restaurant where the focus was perfecting the craft of just one or two main ingredients and in a small Irish pub in Mayfair the first Burger & Lobster was born. I remember dining at the Geno’s Steaks in Philadelphia.  What amazed me apart from their ‘wall of fame’ displaying pictures of celebrities enjoying their steak, was that they had just two items on their menu. So I guess it is...

AlMakan (Street) Resturant Review

If you love food and don’t always have the money to dine in restaurants, street food is your savior. They are delicious, cheap and sometimes provide the best experience. The global food truck chefs have taken this relatively cheap and quick bite to another level the past couple of years. We live in an era where food is as integral to culture as is art and music… and that’s what AlMakan is all about. A very unique concept by chef Zubabar who has created this hub for art and food. They have a coffee shop, restaurant, studio and art gallery. Located opposite...

Burger Boutique Black – Review

It almost seems as though the Gastronomica group has been leading the dream of Kuwait becoming ‘the food capital of the world’. Though I don’t buy that even for a minute (as of 2016), I was just referencing a video that I recently came across. Nevertheless, this group has been gaining reputation as the bastion of food innovation with its own cult following. And I don’t doubt that a bit. We have enjoyed dining at their other restaurants and the experience has been consistently pleasurable. And now they have started, what I’d call their ‘luxury edition’ burger, ‘The Black’...

Dogmatic Kuwait – Review

The hot dog is the quintessential summer food: cheap, tasty, great for grills and forgiving of even the most inexperienced backyard cooks. This ‘simple working class street food’ is said to have had it’s origins in Germany and its mention has been made as early as 1487. Fast forward… 2015.. and we have the first hot dog restaurant in Kuwait. Moving away from its simple traditional roots the one here is ‘gourmet’, meaning its not just a hot dog stuffed in a bun slapped with sauces but crafted with care set to cater to the connoisseurs !! The restaurant...

Texas Roadhouse Review – Kuwait

It all began on February 17, 1993, when Kent Taylor opened the first Texas Roadhouse in Clarksville, Indiana.  Kent’s goal was to own not just a family restaurant and not just a steak restaurant, but a place where everyone, of all ages, could come and have a great meal and great fun for a great price. Though those lines were taken from their story describing the restaurant, we can see that the ‘idea’ has successfully transcended all barriers and found it’s way in Kuwait. The first two things that stand out here is that the place is lively and the...

Big Smoke Burger Review Kuwait

A Burger is a thing of beauty, a messy manifestation of all things ‘umami’. We have been on this Burger Hunt for sometime hogging our way through many restaurants that serve this simple food with elegance, respecting every ingredient and treating it with reverence. To my understanding, presently there are more than 90 places in Kuwait that serve burgers and while it’s almost impossible to review each one of them, the only thing stopping us from going into the ‘mission impossible’ mode is our waist line and fear of dependence of lipitor. Big Smoke Burger unlike many places that serve burgers...

Applebee’s Review – Kuwait

The Avenues mall is growing to become an epicure’s paradise. Walk around any area of the mall and you will be visually allured by restaurants serving fine food. Everything from popular franchise to casual diners to local brand restaurants can be found in this mall that stretches for at least a kilometer. Don’t fret, you can also find a restaurant for your occasion and budget. Applebee’s, the neighborhood grill & bar is an American casual diner that has been serving tables and hearts since 1980. Located in the phase 2 food court next to Johnny Rockets, this place offers...

BurgerFuel Kuwait – Review

In 1995, New Zealand based BurgerFuel gave the ordinary big bad burger an overhaul. It was the year when the world’s most wicked food turned healthier (or so they claim) and a much better fuel to the human body. Since then, BurgerFuel has been engineering the ultimate burger; offering freshly built burgers with 100% pure grass-fed beef or hormone-free chicken with fresh and natural ingredients, as well as gluten-free and vegan options. It’s popularity has given birth to as of now 76 outlets (34 in New Zealand) and in Kuwait we have 2. So guess it has to be good. But...

Burger Co Kuwait Review

As far as the Big fast food burger chains go (McDonald’s, Hardees, and Burger King) I have a clear hierarchy in my mind. Hardee’s wins by a mile for serving burgers that actually taste like burgers. McDonald’s has its own unique flavor profile that keeps it afloat and Burger King too have their own interesting options; Flame-broiled, smoky ..etc However, when you crave a real burger, these options won’t do. Kuwait has literally seen an explosion in local concept and franchise restaurants that serve burgers. To me, some of these seem like the weird cousins of the fast food...

Classic Burger Kuwait

Excellent burgers are hard to come by. Sure you can have a chunk of meat sandwiched between bread accompanied with the usual condiments and an oversized spear of pickle for a budget value. While this has its own arena, right now it’s not of precedence. We are on a quest for quality and almost all of the ‘above average’ burger joints have their usual clichés about the quality of their food served and Classic Burger does the same….. their claims.. ‘flame grilled with passion, Classic burger joint serves burgers that cook up a gourmet storm. We only serve real...

IHop Review Kuwait

The typical IHOP customer doesn’t expect extraordinary food, rather just the simple uncomplicated feel of a small-town diner. This place has been flipping pancakes since 1958 and as of September 30, 2012, there are about 1,565 IHOPs in 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as in Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It had been a while after our last visit, but in the meantime the restaurant had opened up other branches across Kuwait. Jabriya was closest to our place and  since we had enjoyed our earlier visit (at Jabriya), thought we’d give it...

Junkyard Burger, Kuwait

Our ‘Burger Hunt’ has got us stepping out of our comfort zones to places where we would not normally go. We have been specifically searching for burger joints, studying their array of choices and tasting them. Got a coupon from a friend that offered a buy1 get 1 at Junkyard burger, so on a weekend evening thought of trying out the place. Fortunately the location (The Village) was mentioned on the coupon because this was not one of the places we’d heard about.  Please note that this review is being published a while after we tried this place...

Cheesecake Factory Review – Kuwait

My first dining experience at the Cheesecake factory was in 2010 during our trip to the USA. The unique architecture and the pleasant mood set by the warm and dimly lit interiors add to the experience. Apart from this what caught my attention was the size and range of the Cheesecakes (after all I’m not a glutton, I’m just an explorer of food 😉 ). Located at the prime spot in Avenues phase 3, you have to be blind not to notice this place. From kids to grandmothers, from gluttons to dieters, I believe everyone should find something they...

Burger Boutique Kuwait Review

Burger Boutique comes from the same group (Gastronomica) that has quenched the appetites of many in Kuwait.  Since we had been to Slider Station and Cocoa Room, our expectations were already set. In fact, I heard this place was better. Located at the Arraya Mall, Mezzanine floor in Kuwait city, it’s really hard to miss this place (even if you weren’t searching for it, you’ll see it). In our last visit, the interiors had a more upscale feel to it, but after the renovation it seemed more simple with a lot of emphasis on the ‘Go Green’...

Elevation Burger (kuwait) review

As part of our quest for El Dorado (in this case being burgers), we had visited the Elevation Burger at the Avenues phase 2. In fact we had been to this place quite a few times earlier and every time we have left ‘wanting more’. Their caption ‘Ingredients matter’ is reflective of their product, 100% Organic, grass-fed, (USDA certified) fresh and flavorful using the highest quality ingredients. In today’s age where most are calorie conscious, few have any idea as to how many calories are packed in this delicious meal that can be finished in seconds (by some). The...

Slider Station Kuwait (Review)

The mark of a good restaurant is not necessarily its size, but the quality of its food and the generosity of its staff. While we value the ambience and it does add to the experience, it all comes down to the ‘food’. ‘Slider Station’ is the brain child of the ‘Gastronomica’ group. They also own Burger Boutique, Cocoa Room and Open Flame. (You can check out our review on Cocoa Room here..)  Almost every time we had come here, the restaurant was packed. Parking is a bit of an issue, unless you don’t mind parking at the ground opposite the...

Smashburger Review

I LOVE burgers and after a few days of impatient waiting we finally got our chance yesterday to visit Smashburger. Fortunately they have a branch in Salmiya close to Symphony mall, Memos, Quiznos etc. It was easy to locate the restaurant but parking was bit of an issue. Parking by the curb will definitely fetch you a ticket…so beware ! Anyways, we were quickly seated by the friendly staff. The tables were tiny and seemed better suited for coffee and pastries rather than a sit-down meal. The staff though friendly, unfortunately were not well versed with the menu and the...
