In spite of all the concept restaurants, franchise eat outs and with the plethora of cuisines to choose from, to date shawarma remains one of my favorite choice of fast foods. In fact I could have it for lunch or dinner. I’ve tried many different places starting from Dean and Deluca,  Ikea, Shawarma Shuwaikh, to the simple one down the road. I really hope to include reviews on all the premium shawarma outlets too. But just a few days back I had been to Dandoosh in Bneid-Al Ghar….

… this being the Ramadan season, at 12am the place was packed. What interested me was the variety of shawarmas they offered.

They had  ‘spicy’  chicken, normal chicken, meat, kebab and shistauok, all served as a shawarma. When I go to a shawarma joint I’m always curious if the preparation of the meat is unique to a particular region (Syrian, Egyptian.. etc), but to my surprise here I found a few


East Asians grilling the meat along with Arabs ..!! So I guess they served ‘Dandoosh’s special shawarma’.

All the Shawarmas were served in samoon and we didn’t have the option of Quboos or Saaj. That was the only sad part. We tried the spicy and normal chicken, meat (leham) and shistaouk variety…Of the lot, we liked the meat shawarma better. They were pretty generous with the  meat and it was a bit crispy on the outside. I could point on a few things here and there, but I really don’t want to be critical over a 0.300 fils sandwich… 😉

Ratings – Ambiance – 5/10, Service – 6/10, Menu – 6/10, Food – 8/10, Consistency – 8/10, Value for Money – 8/10

Overall – We will definitely go back again.
