Freej Swaileh Kuwaiti Restaurant
Freej Swaileh is a Kuwaiti restaurant located in Salmiya and it’s really easy to find. The restaurant is in the building in between Marks & Spencer and Max (retail store). The entrance is from the back and there is ample parking. The restaurant has 3 floors and I believe the ground and second floor has cabins and is suitable for families. The interiors were reminiscent of an old Kuwaiti home and they tried as much to lavish upon us the experience of delighting in Kuwaiti food enjoying the ‘stars’ ;).
We were greeted by smiling faces and after waiting for 20 minutes (could be longer at times) we got our cabin. To get the attention of the waiters you’ll have to ensure that the lamp outside the cabin is switched on. The menu is pretty simple and they certainly offer you a lot of help with it. The guy who served us was sweet enough to tailor our order to ensure that we would not waste food.
Our Order – Surprisingly, they DON’T serve fresh bread at this place and that was a real downer. In fact the only downer !. They pretty much try to make up for that by serving chappatis. The chappatis are soft and a bit sweet. We had ordered;
- Large Mix Grill Platter (kd 8)
- Chicken Majbous (kd 1.750)
- Grill Chicken half (kd 1.500)
- Lamb Chops (kd 2.500)
- Cold Appetizers 0.750 fils each (baba ghanoush, mutabbal, hummous and tabbulah).
The main dishes were really good. Some felt the kabab’s were a bit oily, but personally I was fine with it. The meat was certainly tender and I loved the juicy shish taouk that had that grilled flavor. The hummus was not that great, but the other appetizers were good.
The Total Bill for 7 people was kd 21. Talk about value for money 🙂 !
