Junkyard Burger, Kuwait
Our ‘Burger Hunt’ has got us stepping out of our comfort zones to places where we would not normally go. We have been specifically searching for burger joints, studying their array of choices and tasting them. Got a coupon from a friend that offered a buy1 get 1 at Junkyard burger, so on a weekend evening thought of trying out the place. Fortunately the location (The Village) was mentioned on the coupon because this was not one of the places we’d heard about. Please note that this review is being published a while after we tried this place and this business has undergone quite a few changes including expansion of the branches and even the menu I think.
They market themselves as a street food joint with simple interiors and an urban theme of bricks, cement and wood with a dimly lit interior. In the evening the place seemed pretty dingy. Anyways, its another Kuwaiti concept restaurants that began operations in 2012 and presently have about 3 branches, the Village, Arabella and now at the Hamra. They have a simple but trendy designed menu that featured a few selections. We tried their Junky burger (Kd 2.950) that came loaded with 2 fresh juicy patties, melted cheddar cheese, iceberg lettuce, grilled onions & a homemade yard sauce. The Buffalo Chicken burger (Kd 2.950) had a piece of crispy breaded chicken, iceberg lettuce, mayo and onions mixed with our homemade buffalo sauce. Their Chilli Cheese Fries (Kd 2.750) with jalapenos, cheese and mustard had portion that would easily serve 2 or more hungry people.
The service was friendly and good. The soft burger buns were baked fresh in their home kitchen. The meat was juicy and tender but it’s not so much different from many other places like Shake Shack etc. Their homemade sauce that is served with the burger was good, but calling it a gourmet burger would be setting the expectations too high. The Chili Cheese fries weren’t that good and nothing to beat the one at Slider Station or Burger Boutique.
They have a great looking website and their expansion is suggestive of their faithful and growing fan base. They have a separate breakfast menu and we hope to visit this place again and try other stuff on their menu.
