La Flor (Tex-Mex) Restaurant Review – Kuwait

La Flor (Tex-Mex) Restaurant Review – Kuwait

If you’re lucky enough to find a parking spot at the Divonne complex in Abu Hassinia, consider it a sign that you are destined to dine at La Flor. This is a colorfully decorated restaurant. Married to an Okie (from Oklahoma) we love Mexican cuisine and have always been surprised at the  unavailability of Mexican and Tex-Mex food in Kuwait (considering food is a popular obsession here). Every trip to the United States would entail visits to Mexican eateries. So, when La Flor opened up, it was a no-brainer. I think the spot was earlier occupied by Azteca (another Mexican restaurant) which shut down and opened way for La Flor.

The place is pretty small but the walls are uniquely adorned and filled with a crazy mix of colors, paper flags, mugs and other treasures to reflect the ambiance of a Mexican restaurant. They do offer quite a few dishes and the prices are pretty affordable.  On sitting down you are served with Chips and salsa (both red and green) and that’s on the house. For our order we went with familiar items to benchmark with our experience in the States. We ordered the Quesadillas stuffed with Chicken Kd 3.700Barbacoa Kd 4, Chimichanga Kd 4.500 and water. Total Bill Kd 13.700 (for two).

The Chicken Quesadilla features crispy-fried triangles of seasoned chicken, cheese blend, and a creamy sauce folded and grill-pressed inside a warm flour tortilla. It’s hard to go wrong with this one and everyone from kids to adults should like this. Our favorite dish in this order was the crazy tender beef Barbacoa. Nothing to beat a slow cooked, perfectly seasoned, flavor packed beef brisket cooked to perfection. The Chimichanga is a XL size flour tortilla sumptuously filled with beef, beans and bathed in cheese. All the dishes are served with Mexican rice, guacamole, sour cream and beans.

Overall – Mexican cuisine is a fiesta of flavours, and La Flor is a promising start to bringing authentic Tex-Mex flavours to Kuwait. Even purists think the difference between Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisines has been blurring in recent years.his place certainly offers a good food at a good price. Added to that is the exclusivity of the cuisine. We’re going to watch this restaurant with a lot of interest and will definitely return to try out their tacos and Enchiladas.
