Pizza Express Kuwait – Review

Pizza Express has grown from an up-start shop in UK since 1965 to a rapidly expanding chain. We have all had our sumptuous fill of of the popular ‘Pizza Hut’, ‘Domios’ & ‘Papa Johns’, but this one is of another league. Though not at par with a genuine
Neapolitan authenticity, the ingredients and the flavors here does give a delightful burst of joy. I’ve always loved Pizza’s for their frazzled discs of pepperoni, flavored meat, melted mozzarella and the chillies with surprising kick and a lovely crusted dough.
They have been in Kuwait for quite a while and have about 10 branches I believe. We were satisfied with our experience at the Avenues branch a few years earlier. It was a disappointed ‘home delivery’ experience that caused us to jump of the pizza express bandwagon. Anyways, time heals, and on a causal trip to Marina Mall (Crescent) we decided to give it another try.
The Pizza Express at the crescent is a neatly styled restaurant. As you enter the restaurant you are greeted with the pizza oven, the smell of mozzarella, tomato and baking pizza fills the room along with some smooth jazz music. Unlike many traditional pizzerias, the place has a blue collar vibe to it.
We got the recommended Superfood Salad Kd 5.450 which was a generous mix of fresh spinach with seasonal mixed leaves with cucumber, diced red onions, avocado, lentils, light mozzarella, chicken, broccoli, beetroot, parsley and basil leaves finished with a house dressing. For the pizza we got half and half of their two popular flavors, the Calabrese which had Italian pepperoni, spicy sausage, green chilis, peppers, tomato sauce, mozzarella, pesto genovese, rocket, oregano, grana padeno and baby mozzarella and the American Hottest Kd 5.950 which consists of pepperoni, hot green peppers, red chili, spicy hot duja sausage, mozzarella, fresh parsley and chili oil. The 11′ crispy char crusted pizza was thin but had a little give which I loved. The flavors were rich and every bite had equal burst of flavors.
Pizza Express is not about the billowing sourdough crusts of Pizza Pilgrims. It’s all about the American Hot – a great British pizza, seasoned with nostalgia. Don’t go looking for proper Italian pizza or authenticity of any kind. You go there for decent service, good value and an absolutely reliable taste of a childhood long passed.
Ratings – Ambiance – 8/10, Service – 8/10, Menu – 7/10, Food – 8/10, Consistency – 8/10, Value for Money – 7/10
Overall – The triumph of Pizza Express is in offering great flavors and keeping the classics tasting the same.
